Sankt Pölten, Austria St. Pölten is and has been the capital city of the Austrian State of Lower Austria since 1986. It is located at 48°13′ N 15°37′ E, and has approximately 50,000 inhabitants. In 2000, St. Pölten and Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA, became twin towns. The first twin town of St. Pölten was Heidenheim, Germany. Other twin towns are Clichy, France; Brno, Czech Republic; and Kurashiki, Japan.
