Authentication of Signatures: An authentication is a verification of the signature of a notary public or a local government official on a document.  Authentication can only be done in regard to those notaries or officials whose signatures are on file at the ACS Unit.   If a notary or government official is not on file with ACS, the signature can be authenticated by the Director of Judicial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ACS will then authenticate the DirectorТs signature.  A list of signatures currently on file at ACS can be found here. ... [Read More]

US Department Of State Post Report

However, any employee desiring to bring a weapon to post is required to have the authorization of the Chief of Mission prior to shipping any weapon. Requesting this authorization may be done via cable, and should include the make, model, and serial number of the weapon(s). Automatic weapons are not permitted by the Government of Haiti, and will not be authorized by the Chief of Mission. It should be noted that authorization to import a weapon does not confer the right to carry the weapon outside the home or office. Such authorization must be obtained separately upon arrival at post.  Currency, Banking, and Weights and MeasuresLast Updated:  10/31/2002 6:00 PM The Haitian Government permits a free market exchange of U.S. dollars for gourdes, the Haitian monetary unit. The President's Narcotics Certification Determinations

Burma's performance in the past year remained very much a mixed picture. We did see the area under poppy cultivation being reduced by about 24 percent, according to United Nations figures. But nevertheless, Burma does remain the world's second largest producer of illicit opium; and, of real concern to us as well; it remains one of the world's largest producers and traffickers of amphetamine-type stimulants, which have created major problems to health and security throughout Southeast Asia. ... V. Special Cases

Iraq is a country still in transition. The Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) is working with the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) to help establish an interim government that will assume power on July 1, 2004 and administer the country until elections take place and a permanent constitution is ratified, no later than December 31, 2005. Because of the special circumstances in Iraq, it is difficult to get a highly accurate picture of the human trafficking situation in the country. This report, gathered from various information sources, is but an attempt to identify the extent of human trafficking in Iraq as well as efforts underway to fight it. Iraq appears to be a country of origin for women trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation to other countries within the region and to India. Reports indicate that an increasing number of Iraqi women and girls are being trafficked into Yemen for sexual exploitation. Some of these victims cited threats against their families a ... PresidentТs FY 2005 Narcotics Certification

Yesterday, President Bush sent to Congress the "Majors List" and his annual determinations on narcotics certification for fiscal year 2005. This year's "Majors List" is comprised of 22 countries. They are: Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Burma, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, and Vietnam. First, I would like to bring to your attention a change in Majors List membership from last year. The President has removed Thailand from the list of major drug-transit or major illicit drug producing countries. Thailand was removed from the Majors List because: (1) Thailand's opium poppy cultivation is well below the levels specified in the Foreign Relations Authorization ... [Read More]
