New Jersey Credit Discrimination Laws (5/31/85) A bill in the New Jersey Senate that would incorporate someprovisions of federal credit laws into state law would provideadditional protection to consumers, according to the FederalTrade Commission staff. However, the FTC staff said that to theextent the proposed legislation exceeds federal requirements, "itmay present compliance problems and impose costs on creditorswithout compensating benefits to consumers." The bill (S.B. No. 2035) would amend New Jersey's lawsagainst credit discrimination by incorporating certain provisionsof the FTC-enforced Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA).
